Vehicle Story

The world was watching very closely when the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII was announced in 2003.

This was the first Rolls from BMW and, it turned out, would be the model that effectively rescued the marque and would give its Teutonic rival, Maybach, a very formidable competitor.

The body is mostly aluminium and the extrusions used to construct the aluminium spaceframe were produced by some hydroelectric magic in Norway, lovingly beaten into shape somewhere in Denmark, hand-welded in Germany and turned into a car at Goodwood, England.

The Series 1 Phantom VII (2003 – 2012) is an extraordinary car in almost every imaginable way.

Priced at over £250,000 when new (and that’s for the ‘basic’ Phantom with no extras – i.e., the one that nobody capable of affording a Phantom would ever buy), this car was uncompromising in its display of uncompromising luxury.

It could be ordered in practically any colour and finish and tailored to suit any taste.

In 2006 the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong ordered 14 extended wheelbase Phantoms in a unique ‘Peninsula Green’ colour. At the time, this was the largest ever single order for the Phantom VII.

This 2008 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Phantom ‘Pearl’ edition is from the Bespoke Collection and is therefore a very rare, limited-edition model.

Chassis No: SCA1S68038UX01181.

The car’s odometer is showing just 206 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

A 2008 model year vehicle, it was bought new in 2007.

It was originally supplied with black exterior paint.

As you can see, it is now two-tone cream/pale yellow and dark yellow.

We were thinking custard and mustard. Both are yummy.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this vehicle and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom ‘Pearl’ edition is effectively a brand-new car with only delivery kilometres to show for its 15 years of life.

Exterior

The bodywork is pretty much pristine.

The panels are straight and even, the bodywork is free of any flaws that we can see, and the panel gaps and shut lines seem entirely consistent and even.

The paintwork seems to have been done to a very high standard and has plenty of shine and lustre.

The chrome and exterior trim are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings.

The wheels are unmarked and seemingly untroubled either by time or use.

As far as we can tell, there are no flaws of any real consequence on the exterior of this car.

Interior

The ‘Arctic White’ and black interior is in the same immaculate condition as the exterior.

All of it was designed to leave the owners and passengers of the time in no doubt that they were in something very special indeed.

And it’s still extremely impressive today.

The ‘Piano Black’ veneers on the dashboard and door cappings are rich and glossy.

The inserts on the door cards and dashboard are fashioned from Mother of Pearl.

The black carpets are thick and deep.

The ‘Arctic White’ natural grain leather upholstery is as crease-free and fresh as you’d expect to find in a car that’s barely even warmed up its engine in the past.

The seats, front and back, are in what appears to be immaculate condition.

Like everything else in here, the door cards, curtains and headlining are all as good as new.

The umbrellas that should be inside the rear doors are still present.

All the Rolls-Royce (and BMW) toggles, stops, levers, switches and buttons are as shiny and classy as the day the engineers at Goodwood installed them (we can’t make any claims about their full functionality as we haven’t tried to drive the vehicle).

There’s nothing so vulgar as a rev counter. Instead, the Phantom has a ‘Power Reserve’ meter.

It does the same thing, only differently.

Mechanical

Unsurprisingly, the undersides look as if they belong to a car that’s only covered 206 kms and has spent its entire life kept warm and dry inside.

Everything in the engine bay looks to be in its right and proper place.

History Highlights

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

What We Think

The Phantom VII was a very important car for Rolls-Royce. New owners BMW stopped at nothing to create an automotive experience that had the dynamic abilities and engineering integrity to match its unrestrained, bespoke opulence.

We think this time-warp condition example is as close as you can get to a brand-new Phantom without incurring the huge cost.

We also think that this very striking yellow vehicle would suit someone for whom the standard Rolls-Royce Phantom doesn’t quite make enough of a statement.

We don’t imagine there can be many other examples out there in better condition than this, whatever their colour scheme.

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are as good as the rest of the car.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €60,000 - €100,000.
