2011 AUDI S5 Cabriolet S-Tronic


Introduced in 2009 at the world-famous Frankfurt Motor Show, the Audi S5 (referred to as the B8/8T internally) represents Audi’s high-performance variant of its A5 family of coupés and cabriolets.

Like the standard A5, the S5 was also available in coupé, cabriolet and ‘Sportback’ sedan variants, featuring more aggressive body lines, bumpers and styling compared to the A5, along with bigger brakes, larger alloy wheels as standard, and numerous standard-fit items such as heated sports seats which were optional on the A5.

As with all Audi S/RS models, the S5 featured ‘Quattro’ all-wheel-drive as standard, though there were different engines for the model range. The coupé featured a 4.2-litre FSI V8 engine until 2012, whilst the cabriolet and Sportback models were powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6.

Interestingly, despite the higher power levels, the coupé was only available with a six-speed Tiptronic transmission as the automatic option, whereas the cabriolet and Sportback were available with the arguably more desirable seven-speed ’S-Tronic’ dual-clutch transmission.

The first-generation S5 was produced between 2007 and 2012, when it was given a major facelift for the B8.5/8.5T model range, which soldiered on until 2017.

First registered in 2011, the first registered keeper of this black-over-black S-Tronic-equipped S5 Cabriolet is believed to be Audi UK, where the vehicle was likely used as a management car or demonstrator.

The vehicle has subsequently passed through two private keepers, before coming into the hands of our vendor, who, as a dealer in modern classic cars, has not registered the vehicle in their name, meaning there are only 3 keepers noted on the V5.

A true “wolf in sheep’s clothing” to quote the seller, this S5 will happily fly under-the-radar in daily life, yet show a clean pair of heels to cars far newer and more expensive than itself, should the driver wish to exploit the 3.0-litre V6 engine.

Finished in a timeless specification and boasting numerous desirable features including heated memory seats, Audi MMI with navigation, reversing camera and side assist, this is a strongly optioned example that has also evidently been cosseted throughout its lifetime and likely garaged, judging from the tell-tale signs such as the excellent condition of the roof and lack of blockages in the drain holes.


The lines of the first-generation S5 have aged incredibly well, and we reckon that both the coupé and convertible are still excellent-looking cars to this day.

This particular example has been kept in excellent condition by both our vendor and the previous owners, with the result being a classy high-performance cabriolet with wonderfully straight bodywork, even panel gaps and no signs of any major impact damage or scuffing.

Up close, the paintwork does show the odd stone chip and light usage mark - accentuated by the black paintwork - but nothing that should cause any concern or be noticeable in day-to-day life.

All four of the wheels are in great condition with no kerb rashes or damage, and show only a few light marks on the inner faces.

As we’ve already mentioned, the folding soft-top is in excellent shape, showing that this example has been given plenty of love and attention throughout its life and suggesting the car has likely been garaged. As far as we can see, there is no damage to the roof, though there are a few deep creases from the roof being kept down for long periods of time, but these should go away with regular use.


Inside, the cabin has also stood the test of time well, both from a condition and a design point of view.

The front seats - particularly the driver’s seat - have some deeper creases within the bases which would likely be remedied with gentle conditioning and heat application, whilst the outer bolsters also display some wear which is commensurate for a car of this age and mileage with ‘sports’ seats.

In the rear, the seats look to have been barely used, whilst the carpets through the car are in very good condition and show only light wear-and-tear in keeping with the rest of the car’s condition.

All of the systems are working as intended with no known faults according to our vendor, and no other issues reported by our photographer. The graphics on the switches throughout the car are also in very good shape with minimal wear, showing the car has evidently been cared for.

Up above, the inside of the folding roof looks to be in great shape, though as with the exterior, there are numerous creases and light marks from the top being stowed away for extended periods of time.

The sound system is top-end Bang & Olufsen and the seller believes the cars had both the 'tech' and 'comfort' pack spec. when delivered new. He says it also has keyless start/stop.

In the engine bay, the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 looks to be in rude health, with no sign of any leaks or obvious issues that we can see. Our photographer reported no problems during the photo shoot, and our vendor is not aware of any problems with the vehicle from a mechanical standpoint.

Underneath the car, the chassis is in great shape and has stood up well to the elements, displaying only a typical light ‘bloom’ of surface corrosion on exposed areas, suspension components and the exhaust, typical for a vehicle of this age.

The latest MoT - dated 07 October 2021 - shows a clean pass with no advisory items.

Potential bidders will also be pleased to note that the car has no recorded MoT failures at any point within its lifetime, and the only advisories noted throughout its history relate to the under tray and engine covers being fitted in 2014.


Included with the vehicle is an impressive history folder, two keys, the usual plethora of Audi manuals and handbooks, and several invoices from Chelmsford and Bexley Audi dealerships for servicing and miscellaneous work.  The service book is stamped with:
