Vehicle Story

Constructed between 1966 and 1976, the Jensen Interceptor is 2-door 4-seater grand tourer from England. The car was designed by Carrozzeria Touring of Italy and is now known for being a remarkably good-looking vehicle despite its strange shape. The first Interceptors were built in Italy as well by a different company named Vignale, but this stopped relatively early and production was moved back to the Kelvin Way Factory in West Bromwich, England to be done in-house by Jensen themselves. Jensen was well known at the time for using glass-reinforced plastic to make body panels; however, the introduction of the Interceptor saw a return using a more practical steel body-shell instead.

Vehicle Overview

This specific Interceptor is a 1973 model meaning it is a Mark III. The difference between Mark Is and Mark IIs were some exterior tweaks, and the Mark II interior received a heavy overhaul in order to satisfy US safety regulations. The jump from Mark II to Mark III is equally reserved. The Mark IIIs front fascia was tweaked again, GKN alloy wheels and air conditioning became standard equipment, and the seats were redesigned. A new 7.2L 440ci V8 was also introduced to replace the prior 6.3L 383ci V8.

Exterior

The exterior to this Interceptor is finished in a dark shade of metallic gun metal gray. The condition of the paint is great, with only a couple of flaws around the car. There are some chips around the hood ad one small hairline scratch, continuing to the driver’s side rear quarter panel – there is a spot of curb rash on the rear wheel arch, and a medium sized chip in the paint behind that same wheel. Everywhere else, the paint looks in good shape. The Jensen wheels are slightly weathered but have no curb rash whatsoever, and the tires are in good condition with plenty of tread left.

Interior

Following suit with the outside, the interior of this Interceptor is unbelievably clean. The front seats are clean, with only the driver’s exhibiting minor signs of creasing. The dashboard and wooden steering wheel are clean and show no damage All the gauges are clean and easily readable. The leather center console is in great condition, and it appears that a former owner fitted an aftermarket Kenwood stereo for modern convenience. The headliner is clean and tight, but the passenger sunshade appears to be sagging in the middle. The rear seats look extremely comfortable and show no signs of weathering at all.

Mechanical

We are pleased to report that the underside of this Interceptor is clean. The undercarriage is hiding no major damage, and all of the components look neat and tidy. There is a minor amount of surface corrosion, but it doesn’t look worrisome. The engine bay is extremely tidy, and nothing looks damaged or out of place.

History Highlights

Based on the documents available to us, we gather that the seller acquired this vehicle in October of 2015.

What We Think

Among famed British sports cars, the Jensen Interceptor is a rather obscure one. However, great styling, even better power, and seats for four eared the Interceptor a cult following. Today’s example has great paint, a pristine interior, and no red flags underneath. From everything we have seen of the car, we are more than confident this Interceptor will reach its $35,000 - $50,000 estimate.
